Hard to See Them Go

Jodi has been camping for what seems like a month, but I think it’s actually been about 9 days.  Now that my nest is often, but not always, empty, my world is getting quiet. Most days, that’s okay by me, but sometimes it just seems a bit too quiet.

I got to feeling a little sorry for myself last Monday or Tuesday evening realizing Jodi and Gary would be gone for the holiday weekend and knew that I’d be bored out of my skull, so I texted Kale that maybe he could come home again if he didn’t have other plans.  For about 30 minutes I didn’t hear back, but then came the sweet sound of the chime from my Blackberry and the text from Kayla read, “We’ll see you Thursday!”  I was so excited… a long weekend with the kids.

They came in Thursday evening and one of the things on Kale’s list was to pick up some board shorts.  So, we hit Walmart, apparently a little late in the season, because this was all he was finding…

Friday morning we got up and Kayla and I ran to the thrift stores.  We got a bargain sport coat for Tyler at $1.25!  We also stopped at Stage and got Kale some swim trunks.

Late afternoon, while Tyler was still at work, we loaded up and headed to the lake.  I haven’t been to the lake in forever and it was fun just hanging for a while.

Before we left the lake, we took Kayla by the Peel Ferry, the last operating ferry in the state.

Afterwards, we met Tyler for supper at our favorite pizza place (Breadeaux Pizza).

Saturday, Kayla and I went to see “The Proposal”.  It was a MUCH lighter movie than last week’s “My Sister’s Keeper”, and we had LOVE for it too.  It was one of those movies you don’t really want to end because you’re enjoying it so much.

That Sandra Bullock is just so darn cute.

Saturday evening we went to my folk’s house for a cookout.  We spent the evening sitting out on the back deck in beautiful weather enjoying each other’s company.  There were 33 of us there and three of my siblings and their families weren’t even able to come.

Today, after church and visiting Miss Charlsie, Kale and Kayla had to go back to Fayetteville.  It’s always hard to see them go, but I’m thankful to have had them here.

I hope your holiday weekend was filled with family and fun and a true appreciation for this great country and those who are fighting for it.

Looks like ya'll had a great fourth of july! I know you had a good time with your kids :)
I saw the Proposal a couple weekends ago and loved it too-I swear Sandra Bullock has not aged! She looks so good!

Girl, my heart aches for you. I hate the feeling I have after the kiddos have been here and then they leave. The house is always so quiet. It's always easier being the one that leaves than the one that gets left.

Looks like you guys had a terrific time and had lots of stuff to do to keep you entertained!

What a great, fun weekend! It's so good to get together and make those memories to enjoy again and again. It is hard to see them go!

Sounds like a perfect weekend to me! I love Breadeaux pizza - I haven't had that in YEARS!
I'm jealous of all of your movie going. One of my favorite things to do is go to the movies in the summer. Why just the summer, I don't know? But there isn't a lot of that going on these days. :-)

It was so good to have Kale, Kayla and Tyler in Bible Study this morning!!

I'm a little lonesome myself! Heard from Steve a few mins ago. They had stopped for the night!
Now I've got to get ready for Harper's visit!

Sounds like you had a great holiday. It was good for me to read about your house being too quiet--it was a good reminder for me to appreciate and enjoy all the noise and chaos that goes on at our place these days...I know someday I will long for that again when the kids are bigger and more independent.

You snapped some neat fireworks pictures! We heard lots of fireworks, but didn't actually see any from our living room. About the time the fireworks ended, a huge thunderstorm moved in, so it was a loud night!

I thought The Proposal was super cute!! I know what you mean about the empty nest. I'm sooo not looking forward to too much quiet. I'm just not used to it! Glad you had a good 4th!

Ahhh, such a good weekend! I had so much fun! Can't really beat a weekend with girl time, fireworks, the lake, a bunch of good food, and a WHOLE bunch of family :)

P.S. I can't believe you left out the part of Dave's shoe. Guess I'll have get those pics from Kale and post the picture! Haha

After a while you get used to the quiet. I know it's in God's plan to start you out with just your husband and to end you up that way but you sure do miss the kids when they're gone. However, isn't it wonderful when they come to visit! blessings, marlene
