Our Talks…

Today when I got to Ms. Charlsie’s, she was sitting in her living room chair with two bowls.  One with apples and the other with the peels she was removing from them.  When I went to the kitchen to sort her meds, she got up and came to the kitchen table to visit with me while she worked the apples and I worked up her pills.

While she slices, she makes conversation… asking about my day and telling about the events of hers.

I love our talks.  We talk about the apples and the applesauce she’ll make.  We talk about the foods she’ll bake.  She shares about the many gardens she and Hardy raised, or how as a girl her folks would raise hogs for slaughter and the meat would be hickory smoked or salt-cured.

Charlsie is 91 years old.  She has nearly a century of wisdom to share with me and I’m happy to sit and listen … and learn.

The first church that John pastored out of seminary was in a sleepy little town in South Arkansas and we had many "Charlsie's" in our church. I wasn't working so I would often go "visiting" with John in the afternoons. Those memories are priceless to me. Those precious folks were so lonely and they talked our ears off, but the relationship blessings were all ours. Lots of those sweet folks are in heaven now, but we get a little weepy when we think about them. SUCH A GIFT, Jacquie. I'm so glad you and Charlsie have each other!

I think Miss Charlsie is a blessed woman to have you and David see about her! You both love older people which brings a question to my mind: Why don't you come with David to the nursing home on Sun a.m.? You would be a great asset to our little ministry team and the older people would love you!!

Pray about it please!

Those pictures are so sweet. I'm glad you are such a good friend to her. How rewarding that must be for both of you.

Mom always visits Mrs. Doris and she turned 94 the week before last!

Jacquie,
I LOVE listening to the older generation talk. There is a tenderness and wisdom in their hearts. My mom and I have been having a lot of talks about how things used to be back in "her day". I love it.

Thanks for sharing this sweet post. Charlise is beautiful.

Have a Blessed evening,
Dawn
