052 – Rest in Peace, Holly Kitty

052

September 15, 1998 - June 23, 2010

It’s been a rough day.  David and I made the decision to put Holly down… we’ve wrestled with it for the last three weeks, but it was SO hard to do.  She’s been a part of our family for almost 12 years.  Kale was 11 and Tyler was 9 when we got her.  She was a good cat… but bless her heart, she’s struggled with obesity and was a woman on a diet her whole life.  A couple of weeks ago, I took the contraption off her feeder so that she could “rob” it whenever she wanted.  I just wanted her to be as happy as possible with what time she had left.

Here are a few photos I found from over the years…

Then, after work today, Ms. Charlsie called my cell.  I had my hands in water, so after I dried them I tried to call her back.  Her line was busy and stayed busy (she’d left it off the hook). Dave was about to leave, so he ran by to check on her and she was not well.  When he got there she had all her prescriptions on the table with the lids open and pills were everywhere – I sort her meds for her in a one-week sorter and they were all mixed up and I couldn’t make heads or tails out of it .  She had some pills inside the wrong bottles and everything.  She couldn’t remember what had happened.  I am hoping that she mixed up her doses at one point today, the other option is another mini stroke.  She didn’t remember going out to the garden this morning or taking her 1 PM dose.  Her blood pressure was fine. Perfect, actually.  But, she was pretty shook up.  We got her settled down and her memory came back to her, although she’s not clear about why she had her meds out, she did remember working in the garden and taking her bath this morning.  I’m going to try to find her a one-day sorter and take her medications home with me.  All I know is that it is scary to see her like that. And it’s upsetting to her too.  I took her some things from the store after church this evening and she was feeling much better.

It’s been an emotional day…that’s for sure.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your cat. We have several and they are truly a part of the family. I'm glad you made sure she was happy these last few weeks.

I hope everything is okay with Miss Charlsie~my grandmother had the daily dose packs and they helped her remember her meds better. But still, there were days when she mixed them up.

I'm sorry to hear about your cat--that's hard. :(

And I know that was upsetting and scary to see Mrs. Charlsie like that. Mom helps Mrs. Doris and she's had a rough few days, too. It makes me so sad.

Hope you have a better day today. Thinking of you.

Goodness...when it rains, it pours. I am soooo sorry about your sweet kitty. Pets are almost like our children in some ways! I know how hard that must have been. I cried for days when we put our dog to sleep!

That is sooo scary about Ms. Charlsie! I get so worried when something like that happens. I am glad it seems like she is okay!

This weekend is going to be so much better for you!

OH- and every single time you leave a comment on my blog I am amazed at how much we have in common and just how encouraging you are to me!! I am totally like you---an introvert until I get to know someone...then I get totally comfortable and am a "chatty cathy!" :)

I'm so sorry about Holly. My cat was 12 when we had to put him down - diabetes was slowly starving him and without twice daily shots he couldn't make it. It's a hard decision. Ms. Charlsie must have scared you to death. I'm praying she will be better now. blessings, marlene
