When I took Izzy out today, I saw this little feller. It reminded me of when the boys were young. A friend of ours introduced them to the cicada and told how they shed their outer shell and leave them behind hanging on trees, fence posts, or anywhere they land. He even took the time to catch one shedding on video!! Kale got SO into them as a kid. He’d take baggies and go around the yard collecting all the shells. It became a bit of an obsession. I used to open drawers and find bags of them. Ick!!
It has been so hot here (and most other parts of the U.S. as well). It got me to thinking about how much longer we have of summer and this heat. Then, I remembered that we’ve built a fire as early as late September before… that’s only 2 months away. Crazy! I love the summer, so I’m not wishing it away, but the thought of our first autumn fire always excites me.
And Christmas is only 5 months away!!

I SERIOUSLY hope my children never know that he did that. No ideas for them! Although, I'd rather see the shell of one than a live one!
I haven't seen one of those in a long time. I remember finding them on the farm when I was little. I didn't collect them like Kale did, but I did like to look for them. My mom and I teach together at a middle school. She likes to tell my friends stories on me like this.
